ELVES Explainer Video

This was a group project that we did as part of our college course. A company called ELVES (end of life vehicles) approached one of our tutors and asked if we would be interested in creating an explainer video for them with the objective being to help raise awareness of the correct and legal way to dispose of a vehicle in Ireland. They provided us with the audio dialogue which we were allowed to pause but not rearrange, an information pack for every group, notebooks and high-vis vests (when we went to the ATF facility).

Our class was divided into eight small groups, six groups of three and two groups of two. I was in a group with David Ng Yee Shian and Michael McNamara.

Field Trip to an ATF

We visited an ATF facility outside of Limerick, which was organised by ELVES, in order to understand the process of end of life for vehicles. The people there were really friendly and generous with their time encouraging us to ask as many questions as possible. They showed us the process of depollution and explained the systems they had on site. This gave us a better understanding of the process and the next step was to start thinking of ideas.

Concept, Technique & Approach, Look & Feel

I took responsibility for the treatment file for the group. Michael and David worked on the storyboard and David created the styleframe.

Assets

We were all new to pixel art, it was a new skill we had to learn in order to complete this project. We divided the backgrounds so every member of our group got one background to make.

This was originally designed by David. I made this version which was in the video.

I also edited the first version of the sound for the video.

This project was a really good experience for learning to work with clients and for practicing pitching skills. Our video was one of three that was shortlisted by the ELVES team that they could potentially use online or on other platforms.
